JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Practice Facility Accreditation Inspector
Supervisor: Staff Veterinarian
PURPOSE
Conduct accreditation inspections of all veterinary facilities throughout the province of British Columbia as per the Accreditation Standards in Schedule D of the CVBC Bylaws. Receives work assignments from and submits inspection reports to the Staff Veterinarian.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspections and Planning
- Set inspection schedule for facilities that are new, moving or adding/upgrading to the existing facility or practice scope, as well as re-accreditation inspections of existing facilities
- Schedule inspections with facilities
- Conduct inspections, either virtually or in person, in accordance with Part 3 of the Bylaws and Policies of the Practice Facility Accreditation Committee (PFAC)
- Ensure facilities are in compliance with Schedule D – Accreditation Standards and associated Professional Practice Standards of the CVBC Bylaws; includes evaluation of patient confinement and accommodation, examination and treatment areas, laboratory and pathology area, diagnostic imaging area (including compliance with relevant safety standards), pharmacy area, anesthesia area, surgery area, dentistry area, mobile/ambulatory capabilities, emergency facilities, and compliance with the standard and guidelines for responsible use of complementary and integrative medicine
- Ensure medical records, dental charting, anesthetic monitoring charts, and radiology logs meet the Standards and provide feedback for improvement to the Designated Registrant and staff
- Review and provide feedback on management and disposal of controlled drugs in accordance with Health Canada Guidelines, and CVBC’s Bylaws and Standards
- Prepare and submit the inspector’s report
Communicating and Reporting
- Liaise with the Staff Veterinarian, Facilities Department Staff, Deputy Registrar, and Accreditation Committee concerning inspection results
- Accurately complete and submit all forms and required documentation within specified timelines
- Review post-inspections submissions and provide feedback to registrants
- Attend and participate in Inspector Team Meetings held bi-weekly
- Attend and participate in Accreditation Committee meetings to discuss issues and facility deficiencies identified during inspections
- Participate in the review of accreditation decisions with Council if required
- Training or advising other inspectors
- Provide input on development or amendment of relevant Standards and Bylaws
- Other services as required within the scope of expertise of the individual and upon agreement with the CVBC
Professional Development
- Continuously develop knowledge and understanding of the Schedule D Accreditation Standards through reading CVBC communications and legislative documents
- Participate in any CVBC training or workshops

Involved in accessing, reviewing, and working with confidential registrant information and medical records.
